R.I.S.E. therapists are passionate about working with kids with learning differences because we are parents of children with learning differences first. THE BODY- MIND CONNECTION
The sensory and motor systems are the foundation of our central
nervous system. They allow the brain to take in and respond to
information from inside and outside the body through hearing, sight, smell, taste, touch, movement, and balance. This balance can be disrupted in unexpected ways. Intergrated Listening Program
The combined elements of an ILS program — movement, treated and bone conduction — help build the foundation for brain and body organization. By addressing brain function at a foundational level, we are better able to become more mentally and emotionally resilient, more effective at school or work, and function positively in our world. Our specialized training in MNRI reflex integration, visual-motor integration, sensory intergration, learning differences, trauma, and the HPA axis allows us to access your primary program needs to implement a in-person or remote program to best fit your needs as well as coach you through your program and goal progress for optimal outcomes. MNRI Reflex Integration
Reflex integration is the foundation of all learning and supports brain maturation at higher centers, allowing learning and motor development to occur with ease. When reflexes remain active, the brain must work harder to perform daily skills that are needed for learning and cognitive development. These challenges can affect the nervous system, leading to a "stuck" developmental state and emotional difficulties with attention, self-regulation, anxiety, motor control, coordiantion, and reading and writing skills. MNRI is the most researched method of reflex integration. Our core speciality in this method is more than a single course or two; it encompasses over 300 HOURS of training, including direct training at the Masgutova Institute of Orlando for direct training in reflexes directly related to sensory processing difficulties, dyslexia, PTSD/anxiety, neurotactile, visual and auditory reflexes, and ADD/ADHD, trauma, and motor coordination and control.

Dyslexia and Dysgraphia Diagnoses
At Rise, we walk with you throughout the entire journey. We diagnose both dyslexia and dysgraphia using the gold standards in assessment. We work alongside parents and caregivers, both in person and virtually, to support you with education, advocacy, and therapy that follows the standard principles set by the International Dyslexia Association. We are trained in Orton-Gillingham methodology-based programs, including S.P.I.R.E. and Structured Word Inquiry. Our staff are also trained and certified Dyslexia IEP Advocates. We offer both in-person and virtual sessions to meet the needs of our students in Alabama and beyond.
IEP Support and Academic Tutoring
Your child's education is the top priority. But when a child begins to struggle to learn, it can be an overwhelming and terrifying experience. It does not have to be. Often, parents don't know where to begin to find the supports that meet their child's needs or to ensure those in place are actually working. 30% of children struggle to learn in a typical classroom setting while their underlying neurodiverse patterns go unrecognized academically for years. At Rise, we specialize in IEP advocacy and parent education because we know the protections in place under IDEA and FAPE that ensure students are identified early and recieve fair and appropriate education based on their specific learning difference. Reading delays make up 80% of IEP needs. At Rise, we provided the gold standard in intensive reading intervention. Reading is the gateway to all learning and affects self-esteem, peer interactions, and all other subjects as early as 2nd grade. Additionally, we offer online parent training and summer intensive sessions.

Shannon has 25 years of experience as a pediatric OT working in outpatient/private settings, home health, schools, and daycares. She is the only Core Specialist in the state of Alabama in MNRI reflex integration, the highest researched standard in reflex integration techniques. She is cerfitied in the SIPT, Sensory Integration and Praxis

She is a Certifed Irlen Syndrome Screener, Certified Handwriting Specialist, SSP certified, and an ILS certified practitioner. She has advanced training in visual processing disorders and treatment. She is a national speaker on dyslexia, a certified dyslexic IEP advocate, and a structured word inquiry practitioner. She was recently asked to speak at the Alabama IDA Dyslexia Conference in Orange Beach in October of 2023 and launched her own remote online parent education webinar program in 2025.
